Mercerizing process conditions

1. Lye concentration

The concentration of lye and the change of cotton fabric

Although there is mercerizing effect when the concentration exceeds 177g/l, the actual concentration should be slightly higher. The main reasons are: ①The fiber itself absorbs ②The acid group on the fiber consumes ③The CO2 reaction in the air.

2. Tension

（1）Effect on gloss: tension ↑, gloss ↑.

（2）Effect on adsorption: Tension ↑, Ba value decreases, anisotropy swells in the radial direction, and shrinks in the axial direction. Tension ↑, shrinkage rate ↓ Tension restricts swelling, which is not good for adsorption.

（3） Influence on mechanical properties: strength ↑, elongation ↓.

（4） Effect on dimensional stability: Tension is beneficial to break the old arrangement state in the fiber, and establish a new state, and promote the setting effect

3. Temperature:

Mercerizing is an exothermic reaction, lowering the temperature is beneficial

Mercerized. However, if the temperature is too low, the 200g/l NaOH solution will have a high viscosity and will not easily penetrate into the fiber.

4. Time:

Adding penetrant can shorten the mercerizing time, and the penetrant should meet the following conditions: ①Resistant to strong saline and alkali ②Good solubility ③Low foaming ④Does not affect the recovery of lye. Usually phenols such as phenol and surfactants.
